Spotify...hmmm

Ok so it looks like I'm doing the Spotify properly thing now after 8 years of coming and going with it... I'm having a free trial month and I'm loving how easy it is to get into new music and re-discover old music. As a musician, I feel like a traitor to my family as I don't get paid anything for my music being played there (I'm not registered with PRS as it costs more per year than the money I would get back).

So I'll still be buying albums from my favourite artists and for smaller artists like myself I'll be buying through Bandcamp as usual, whenever I can.

It's difficult to know when to stop resisting changes like this; at the end of the day, I love getting into new music and I think it's a great tool for that. Also synching my iPhone is the most almighty drama which I need to leave at least an hour free for before a trip, or on a Sunday night before I go back to Barcelona - and I'm tired of it. This way I can continue listening to the same music on my way to the tube, as I was when I was in the house.

I'm a bit sad that this means my music collection is not going to expand quite so much now and my £10 a month goes into a black hole that I don't receive any ownership of any music for, but thats how it is for now.

The music industry is changing all the time at the moment, so we'll see whats next...

Yesterday's Gig - Hillfield Park Street Party

This is something you don't see every day in London...

At the street party yesterday, as the artists were performing and the kids were dancing, I was stood towards the back watching everything and I kept seeing different doors from the local houses opening and people walking into the street with giant plates covered in foil and placing them on the tables in the middle of the street. There were mini Yorkshire Puddings filled with beef and horseradish, sausage rolls, all sorts of roasted vegetables with different sauces, pizza, homemade brownies, buns and cakes and loads more. Not to mention all the wine and beers around!

It was just warming to see that even in 'cold' London, people are still human, small communities do exist and people do want to come together to do activities and feel like they're part of something bigger than just their house and their job. It felt nice to be a part of that yesterday at Hillfield Park Street Party in Muswell Hill.

I played a few old songs and some new ones including a cover as well.

I'm really looking forward to getting back into gigging in London, back out there on the music scene meeting new people, hearing new music, taking photos, writing reviews for this blog... All my energy at the moment is focused on finding a job and finishing the album but SOON...yes...soon!

GIG: Hillfield Park Street Party - TOMORROW!

I've got a last minute gig this Sunday in Muswell Hill at Hillfield Park Street Party.

I will be playing songs from Today Is All, maybe a cover or 2 and will be playing for the first time live, some songs from the forthcoming album.

It's all free and the music is from 5 until 7pm.  I will be playing around 6pm.

New Album in Progress

So far this year I've been mostly working in BonaFideStudio, running my own sessions recording Hip Hop artists, acoustic singer/songwriters, hosting karaoke parties etc.. And I've been writing and recording for the new album! Or I should say, my FIRST full length album...

Like the previous releases there's going to be an international vibe to it with some special guest rappers in Spanish and Italian, there's going to be some old school style Trip Hop, some early Patrick Wolf-esque pop (or so I've been told!) and other musical surprises...

I've been doing a bit of side work singing vocals for people, doing some voiceovers, and other odd jobs such as doing some on location recording too - all in the good name of trying to support myself financially more from the creative side!

I took part in February Album Writing Month this year and for the first time ever, I completed it! I wrote 14 songs in 28 days! Although, I finished off about 5/6 songs on the last day so it was very rushed in the end... Having a week's long birthday celebration in the same month didn't really help with the productivity there haha
